Explaining once again on the strategy of the manufacturer Research in Motion (RIM) BlackBerry and the choice of 10, Thorsten Heins, CEO of the company must meet certain similarities between his situation to wait before the arrival of BlackBerry 10 and that of Nokia when it was decided to switch to Windows Phone.
In both cases, manufacturers found themselves in a waiting situation, with no terminals to offer for several quarters, while the market is growing very quickly without them and that their visibility is weakening.
But where Stephen Elop, CEO of Nokia, evoked a platform on fire by talking about Symbian on arrival, no fire at RIM who is sticking to its BlackBerry platform, currently in version 7.x and by early next year as the evolution of BlackBerry 10.
When asked by The Telegraph, Thorsten Heins always defends its position and refutes the idea of the downward spiral now that sticks to the skin of the manufacturer. 7 If the BlackBerry is still relevant, the next BlackBerry platform 10 must initiate a new direction in mobile computing and prepare the future, hence the care to refine and further delay to early 2013.
With its 80 million customers and its reputation for secure platform, Thorsten Heins says that games are not made and that beyond the platform in preparation, there is the concern of all that can s' to graft later.
Android, an alternative eventually rejected
And as Stephen Elop there a year and a half, Thorsten Heins admits that the choice to switch to Android has seriously put at RIM. The CEO said that the platform has been extensively evaluated but was postponed for the same reasons as those advanced by the boss of Nokia in its time: not enough opportunities for differentiation while RIM has the resources to support its platform BlackBerry shape and oriented in the desired direction.
He also recalled the success of BlackBerry in emerging markets, some forgotten while market share is eroding established markets because of the lack of BlackBerry 4G and take sufficient account of the tendency of BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) in business.
At the same time, the idea of opening a BlackBerry to other partners is in the air and discussions are ongoing but the priority remains the development of BlackBerry 10 currently. The provision of license could be decided later.
But between the continued growth of Android and iOS and the arrival of Windows Phone 8, is there still room for BlackBerry 10 meets the high expectations of RIM?
