The Fortune Businessperson of the year goes to Jeff Bezos

Amazon chief executive Jeff Bezos was named  Fortune's Businessperson of the Year yesterday for being instrumental in revolutionizing bookstore's

Bezos founded Amazon in 1994 and has since redefined what a bookstore is.To add further to his tally of mind-blowing innovations was the introduction of a 7-inch Kindle Fire HD tablet that competes directly with Apple’s iPad Mini and is seemingly very bullish on the E-reader market. As opposed to his competitors, Bezos often pushes the idea that Amazon won’t make money off of its hardware, but rather, Amazon will make money off of the content that brings those tablets alive. Some fresh air to breathe; ain't it.

But what did Fortune saw in Bezos to have him grab the award? Fortune chooses the businessperson of the year by looking at the financial standing of the candidate’s company, stock performance, and market value. It also looks at the person’s leadership, howgood sheet anchors are they for their organizations. It further checks if the company itself has any significance in perhaps changing the consumer experience. In Amazon’s case,"The three big ideas are long-term thinking, customer obsession, and a willingness to invent," Bezos told Fortune, adding, "We innovate by starting with the customer and working backwards. That becomes the touchstone for how we invent at Amazon".

What is more amazing about his feat is the fact that he surpassed several people who by no means were pedestrians.
Runners-up include Apple CEO Tim Cook, eBay CEO John Donahoe, and Samsung CEO Oh-Hyun Kwon.

Specifically, Fortune factored in Bezos’ management style, which includes asking his employees to submit new ideas through a six-page written narrative which were read in "S-Team" meetings of company's senior executives.Fortune also singles out Bezos  stress on the consumer requirements. He says his competition spends time in the shower thinking about overcoming their biggest adversaries, while his employees spend that time thinking about better products for their customers.

Fortune also counted upon the various similarities between the Great Apple CEO Steve Jobs and Bezos. "With Steve's passing, Bezos is the epitome of the venture-backed CEO,",Fortune added. Venture capitalist Bill Gurley was not short in praising Bezos,as he said to the magazine that "if you were to ask 100 startup entrepreneurs who the CEO is they admire most, he would show up on 95 of the ballots".
