These two Windows phones promise to contend with the biggest names in the smartphone industry upon their release. Both are flagship phones for the latest from the Windows Phone mobile operating system, both are expected to be available next month, and both will be priced in the same bracket as the iPhone 5 and the Samsung Galaxy S3. Let’s take a look at what we can expect from the HTC Windows Phone 8x and the Nokia Lumia 920, how they compare, and how they are likely to go up against the most popular (and most expensive) mobiles on the market.
How they are similar:
Both phones are equally powerful, boasting an identical Dual-core 1.5 GHz Snapdragon processor with 1GB of RAM, as well as an Adreno 225 GPU, which means multi-tasking, downloading, streaming, gaming and browsing are effortless. As for aesthetics, both will be available in several color options, and both have similar dimensions, with the Lumia weighing in slightly heavier than the HTC. Neither handset has a radio, but they both offer GPS, Bluetooth, and an NFC chip; which, when paired with Windows Phone 8, means you can enjoy fast and secure mobile payments.
Where they differ:
Starting with the display, although the pixel density and resolution are very similar, the screen technology differ: the Lumia 920 has a IPS TFT 4.5 inch display, and the HTC 8X has S-LCD2 4.3 inch display. The Lumia has the added benefit of being powered by PureMotion HD+, which promises a crisp and vibrant viewing experience. As for internal storage, neither handset offers expandable memory, and the Lumia does have double the storage with 32GB, the HTC only has 16GB. When it comes to the camera, they both have an 8MP rear-facing camera, but the Lumia has the advantage with it’s professional quality Carl Zeiss lens; however, the HTC does have a 2.1MP front-facing camera that can capture 1080p video, the Lumia has a modest 1.3MP. It appears that the Lumia will also have the better battery life, with a Li-Ion 2000 mAh battery, where the HTC has a Li-Ion 1800 mAh battery.
The HTC Windows Phone 8X and the Nokia Lumia 920 are very similar, and will likely be close in price upon their release, which means they will be immediate competitors, and will leave the consumer to choose which is the best of the two.
