The ultrabook has so far been a flop with only 500,000 units sold during the first half of 2012. Over the year, sales should reach one million. But the success promised by Intel intervene there in 2013?
Gartner remains cautious, even if the firm expects a significant growth in shipments of ultrabook next year.
Ultrabook the market, it's Apple?
According to the analyst Mikako Kitagawa, interviewed by CNet.com, the market will rise by nearly 7 million units to represent about 5% of total shipments of laptops. This is still far from 40% of the PC market promised by Intel.
But is it not still good news for manufacturers? Not really, unless they are called Apple. For indeed, for Mikako Kitagawa, about 5% of notebook market is Apple and the MacBook Air rafleraient setting.
Apple is already a priori a large market share of ultrabook evaluated by Gartner in 2012 to 10.7 million units. A figure that may seem odd, citing IDC recently (and later retracted, claiming a lack of sufficient data) the figure of one million units.
