With hackers attack on rise, Facebook connect to the rescue

facebook
We are not safe online and this fact can be proven by the number of popular services been hacked already this year. LinkedIn, eHarmony, Last.Fm and now Yahoo! Millions of passwords being compromised. Last week Formspring servers were compromised and around 420000 hashed passwords were stolen. Formspring founder and CEO Ade Olonoh wrote a blog post apologizing for the password leak. The Final line reads "If you have linked Facebook to your account, you can safely use Facebook Connect to log in."

The Good

Facebook is one of the best internet based company in the world. And this would be a No-Brainer if we think Facebook will easily compromise the passwords from their servers. I believe Facebook is the securest place for your password. This isn't the first time Facebook Connect is saving their users. During Gawker data breach few years ago, the users that were using Facebook Connect were safe from all kinds of Password theft drama. Also the best part is it's free to use on your website as well as every person today have an account on Facebook

The Bad

But Facebook connect users can be in problem other than this like they won't be able to log in when Facebook is having downtime. Additionally, most sites don't enable users that are logged in via Facebook to use pseudonyms while commenting. Also Facebook shows a dialog box that wants you to allow access of a particular site to your account. Every time the websites ask for more permissions it becomes annoying.
