SkyDrive Windows: Deploying an automatic update


Launched by Microsoft shortly before Google Drive, application for Windows SkyDrive cloud has an update (version 16.4.6003.0710). The latter is applied automatically when the execution of the application for the office. However, the application remains in beta.

The update is announced for the Windows client (Windows Vista and 7) while there is also an application for OS X Lion. The Release Preview for Windows 8 is also concerned.

For the visible part, the application introduces a status window when clicking on the icon in the notification system. Whether what SkyDrive is current and how long. During a synchronization SkyDrive, the number of megabytes of files and remaining is displayed.

New options are proposed in the context menu to display synchronization issues, and the parameters: send log files automatically in case of problems with SkyDrive.

The application is integrated more harmoniously into the notification system including a new icon. Besides, Microsoft unveiled the new logo for SkyDrive which will play a major role for the cloud with Windows 8.

What is less visible is perhaps most interesting for the application: "millions of users depend on SkyDrive synchoniser for their files automatically, the update improves the performance, reliability and compatibility with SkyDrive."
